PRESS RELEASE

The snowmobile season is winding down:
La Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec invites snowmobilers to be cautious

Terrebonne, March 19, 2021 - The 2020-2021 snowmobile season is coming to an end in many regions of Quebec. We have experienced an eventful winter with the ups and downs of Mother Nature as well as adaptations, not always easy, to sanitary measures. Snowmobiling has been successful thanks to the commitment of snowmobilers, contributing to the sustainability of our trail network and the industry, which also preserves thousands of jobs in the province. We are grateful to you.

Be responsible for your safety!

The FCMQ invites snowmobilers to use caution on snowmobile trails. The warm weather experienced with the arrival of spring has deteriorated or closed many trails. In this time of spring thaw, the state of the ground is particularly precarious and traffic, where it is not authorized, can cause significant damage and threaten the renewal of land-use permissions, thereby compromising the sustainability of the network.

While some areas are privileged in terms of trail conditions, the fact remains that interconnection may not be possible. The FCMQ would like to remind you that it is important to check the status of the trails in your area before heading out for a ride. You can do this by consulting the FCMQ's interactive map, using the iMotoneige application or by contacting your club.

It is important to take into consideration that trail conditions change extremely quickly with the warmer spring weather. Some bodies of water may also be at risk for snowmobilers. Planning your route is essential!

Thank you for the season

The volunteers did a remarkable job once again this year and it is always important to underline their contribution to snowmobiling. With less-than-optimal snow conditions and in the absence of significant cold weather, they worked miracles to make sure we had great trails. Thanks to their hard work and passion, we were able to enjoy our favorite winter activity.

It is also important to highlight the contribution of landowners who grant us land-use permissions each year, which account for nearly 50% of our trail network. Delinquency was far too present this year and we continue our work to raise awareness about the financial losses to landowners and the loss of trails for clubs.

We would also like to thank our partners for their support throughout the year.

More than 4,500 volunteers devote nearly 800,000 hours each year to the maintenance of the provincial snowmobile trail network.
