Liability Insurance

As required by Law, owners of snowmobiles must possess an insurance contract for personal liability and property damage caused by their vehicle. The minimum insurance required by Law is $500,000.

Up to now, the trail pass fee paid by each member of a snowmobile club allowed them to use the 33,700 km of FCMQ trails. The money collected helped pay for the maintenance of the trails and the financing of necessary equipment. However, since 1998-99 season another element has been added.

In effect, when buying the trail access fee, the snowmobiler FCMQ member automatically becomes the holder of civil liability insurance worth $500,000. The FCMQ, by integrating this insurance with the trail access fee, is protecting each of its members in the case of accident.

With respect to damage insurance, all Quebec insurance brokers have received relevant information on Max Neige insurance products. Snowmobilers can, therefore, stay with their current broker to insure their snowmobiles for all-risks or for collision, fire, theft or vandalism. It is because of their strong buying power that the FCMQ was able to negotiate the most attractive rates.

For additional information on the Max Neige programme, call 514 254-7507 or, toll free in Quebec, 1 877 440-3666.

Bodily Injury Insurance

Did you know that the insurance coverage provided with the purchase of your FCMQ trail pass does not personally cover you in the event of an accident?  When the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec sells a registration plate for your snowmobile, no insurance fee is charge. The Société do not compensate for any injury occuring in a snowmobile accident, unless the accident occured between a snowmobile and a moving motor vehicle (car, truck, for example).

To be compensated for your own physical or material injuries, you must get additional insurance coverage from your insurance broker. When damages are caused by the other driver, you are protected by his liability insurance coverage.
