Competition supervision
Snowmobile clubs are often involved in organizing competition events. These are often friendly recreational activities or may be used as an important source of fundraising. In order to address the inherent risks that go with hosting such events, the FCMQ, through the Quebec snowmobile racing circuit (CCMQ), has adopted into its mandate the task of overseeing such events so as to ensure the security of all participants.
Depending on the type of race involved, the CCMQ will assign either a representative or an official to oversee the event and thus ensure that the activity is run in accordance with the Law of security in sport and FCMQ safety rules. In the case of sanctioned races, the sanctioning body utilises the rules of the International Snowmobile Racing federation.
The CCMQ racing circuit
The CCMQ is a FCMQ committee that is involved in all types of events ranging from drag races on grass and snow, to radar runs. This involvement is carried out through the provision of two basic services. The first involves providing liability insurance at preferential rates for selected events. The second, and perhaps more important, function lies in the provision of training to members in key areas of competition operations. For example, the CCMQ offers basic safety training for club volunteers who wish to organize amateur competitions. In addition, the committee has prepared a set of rules which assure compliance with the Law of security in sport in order to facilitate the work of event supervisors.

Supervised vs Sanctioned race
A clear distinction needs to be drawn between these two types of events. In the case of a supervised race, the following applies:
- amateur-type race;
- promoter is a local snowmobile club;
- the CCMQ assigns a race supervisor;
- the CCMQ bears no responsibility for the running of the race;
- the CCMQ enforces its safety rules as prepared in accordance with the Law of security in sport.
In the case of sanctioned events, the following applies:
- competition in which a recognized sanctioning body delegates race officials. In Quebec, that body is the SCM (Super Compétitions Motorisées);
- the sanctioning body is responsible for the running of the event;
- ISR rules are used;
- manufacturer contingency programs typically apply;
- a points system is in place, along with substantial purses.
